Being a lifelong sports fan has led to many memorable moments for me, as I’m sure it has for every other like-term sports fan. However, as the years go by and I learn more of the stats and intricacies of sports, I have found that sports, and athletes particularly, have lost the magic quality that they had when I was a kid. I still live and die by the outcomes of the games of my favorite teams, but nothing will compare to the players and the teams that I grew to love as a kid. The Reds with Ken Griffey Jr., Brandon Phillips, and Bronson Arroyo will always be the era that I think of when I think of the Reds, the same way that the Bengals with Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson will always be my favorite Bengals team. I can’t speak for everyone, but I feel like the teams that you grew up watching will always have a special quality about them.
