This year in college basketball has been filled with an abundance of future (superstar) NBA talent. Everybody undoubtedly knows the names of multiple Duke freshman sensations in Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish, but arguably the most exciting draft prospect is 6’3 175 lb PG from Murray State, Ja Morant.
Morant is by no means under the radar, projected to go top five in the upcoming NBA draft, as well as a weekly staple on SportsCenter, the whole country knows this kid can play at an elite level. Averaging a double-double in college is hard enough, but to do it with assists is a whole different story. Morant is doing just that, posting season averages of 24.6 PPG and 10.0 APG.
This past weekend at the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, Morant showed why he and his Murray State squad will make some noise come time for the NCAA tournament next week. In the semi and final games of the tournament, Morant tallied 65 points, including the game-winner to send his team to the finals to face Belmont.
Once in the Finals Morant put on a scoring clinic, raking in 36 points, accounting for nearly half of his team’s total output, and taking down number one seeded Belmont 77-65.
With the tournament just around the corner, it is going to scary what Morant will do to opposing teams on a national stage. March Madness is ready for Ja Morant, let’s see if whoever Murray State plays first round can be so lucky as well.
