There is truly no better time in sports than March. The NCAA Tournament is a unique and special event and there is nothing else like it in the world. Everything about March is magical, from conference tournaments to the national championship.

One of the best parts of March is almost anyone can have a shot at winning the national championship because almost everyone qualifies for their conference tournament and has a chance to earn a bid to the big dance. Just last night Western Illinois the #8 seed in the Summit League knocked off top seed South Dakota State! Anything can happen in March! Once conference tournament time hits everyone is 0-0.

Conference tournaments also bring schools and alumni together. Student and alumni flock to cities like St. Louis, Evansville, Detroit, New York, and Las Vegas to support their schools. If you have ever been to a city when it is hosting a conference tournament you know there is a special aura in the air. Bars and hotels are packed with passionate fans supporting their schools and the atmosphere is unmatched in any other sport, mainly because you will have 8-12 fan bases in a city at once. You don’t get that in any other sport.

Now the best and most special part of March is the MADNESS. Anything can happen and legends are made in March. From UMBC knocking off Virginia to Florida Gulf Coast and Dunk City making the Sweet 16, and who can forget Butler going to back to back national titles and launching Brad Stevens and Gordon Hayward to extremely successful NBA careers. No other sport has the unpredictability of college basketball and that what makes March the absolute best month of the year.
