The Western Conference playoff field has all but been set, but the exact seeding is very much up in the air. The biggest battle will be for the 3 seed to avoid Golden State until the WCF. The Trail Blazers, Rockets, and Thunder all are separated by a single game.
The Rockets are currently the hottest team in the NBA, winning 8 in a row and 12 of 15 overall. The return of Capela and Paul has reminded the league why they were a game away from ending the Warriors dynasty. They should be the favorites for the crucial 3 seed, but a lot can still happen.
The Trail Blazers have won 7 of their past 10 and recently were laughably predicted to make the NBA finals by Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley on TNT. They won’t be in the finals I can promise that, but they could be the 3 seed. They have the tiebreaker over the Rockets and have the easiest schedule of the 3 teams left. While Houston captures the attention of the league, the Blazers have stayed a game behind with no more games against the power four in the East or the Warriors.
In the end, the Rockets likely get the 3 seed, and head for a rematch in the Western Conference Finals with the Golden State Warriors, but this is the most interesting race to watch left in the NBA.
