The Columbus Blue Jackets swept the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 7 game series. This is something that nobody would have seen coming and it truly shocked the hockey world. The Lightning came into the playoffs as the Stanley Cup favorites (tying the most wins ever in a regular season) and the Blue Jackets had to win 8 of their last 10 to even clinch a playoff spot. Columbus will play the winner of the Bruins and Leafs series (series tied 3-3). Game 7 will be played in Boston Tuesday night.

The Islanders swept the Penguins in their series. Though the seeding may disagree this felt a lot like a huge upset. Crosby had 1 point throughout the entire series, which was an assist in the last game of the series (to put this in perspective, Brooks Orpik of the Washington Capitals has more goals than Crosby in this year’s playoffs). The Isles will play the winner of the Capitals and Hurricanes (Caps lead 3-2), Game 6 of this series will be played tonight.

The Caps/Canes series has been very interesting. There were a couple of close games and a couple blowouts. This series has been very rough and both teams have been unfortunate when it comes to injuries. Michael Kempny (a top 4 Caps defenseman) had a major injury at the end of the regular season and is out for the entire playoffs. In Game 4, T.J. Oshie was cross-checked from behind into the boards (a very dirty play resulting in no suspension for the Canes) and broke his clavicle, he too, will be out for the remainder of the playoffs. Earlier in the series, captain Alex Ovechkin fought Andrei Svechnikov and knocked him out causing him to leave the game and is still stated as day-to-day. Jordan Martinook was trying to lay a hit on a Capital and collided awkwardly with the boards causing him to miss time, he as well is considered day-to-day. Game 6 will be played tonight and the Caps hope to end the series and book a trip to the next round.
