Recently the NCAA announced new rules for the 2019-20 season. The two biggest changes are the 3 point line moving back to the international distance which is 22 feet and 1 inch which is inching closer to the NBA distance of 23 feet 9 inches. The other significant change is on offensive rebounds the shot clock will reset to 20 seconds instead of the full 30.
I am in favor of both of these new rules. I like the 3 point line being moved back because it will prepare players better for international careers overseas. Let’s be honest only about 40 guys in all of NCAA are going to play in the NBA every year while a lot more are going overseas to play professionally. Playing their college careers at the international 3 point line will help prepare them for their professional careers.
I also like the new shot clock rule. Teams do not need the whole 30 seconds shot clock after an offensive rebound. I do not think this specific rule change will have a large effect on the game as a whole.
I’m excited for next year with these new rules, but let’s take a moment to thank all student managers who are taping the new 3 point line on their team’s courts to get them ready for next year.
