The Cubs have taken over the NL Central this past week and a lot of credit can be pointed at Yu Darvish. Since July 12th Yu Darvish has been living up to his 126 million dollar contract. In his 5 games since July 12th Darvish has a 2.17 ERA over 35.2 innings. The more shocking statistic is his strikeout to walk ratio, a staggering 22:1. He has 44 strikeouts and only 2 walks in the past 35.2 innings! Extremely impressive stats for a pitcher than has struggled mightily since his signing with the Cubs.

The Cubs had a streak of 6 straight games without their starting pitcher giving up a walk. The streak ended August 8th, but still an impressive streak nonetheless. If Yu Darvish can continue his performance into September and the playoffs the Cubs could be a scary team to play come playoff time with Yu Darvish, Kyle Hendricks, Jon Lester, and Cole Hamels heading the rotation. Darvish is key to the playoff success of the Cubs.
