The MLB released their 2020 schedule for all 30 teams this past Monday and several key series will be present within the regular season.
Opening Day is scheduled for March 26th for all 30 teams, the earliest starting date in league history. The first few weeks of the season will be very cold for some teams. For example, the Cleveland Indians will have four of their first six series at home to start the season, with the two road series in Detroit and Minnesota. Any team that is in the north and has an outdoor stadium will have a similar experience.
The MLB will be returning to Puerto Rico and London in 2020. The Miami Marlins will face the New York Mets in a three-game series April 28-30 in San Juan and rivals Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals will face off in London June 13-14. The MLB will be continuing a history of games played in Puerto Rico which dates back to 2001 and will once again attempt to break into British markets with the London Series. This year’s London Series was notorious for incredibly high-scoring and long games between the Yankees and Red Sox.
The Yankees and Chicago White Sox will be playing at the site of the famous movie Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa on August 13th. An 8,000-seat stadium will be built near the site of the famous movie. Iowa has never hosted a Major League Baseball game but currently have five Minor League Baseball teams – the Iowa Cubs (Class AAA), Cedar Rapids Kernels (A), Quad Cities River Bandits (A), Burlington Bees (A), and Clinton Lumberkings (A).
Finally, the Little League Classic will be held August 23rd in Williamsport, Pa. with a matchup between the Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. This will be the fourth year of the Little League Classic, with this year’s matchup featuring the Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 2020 MLB All-Star Game will be held at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, July 14th. This will be the first All-Star game at Dodger Stadium since 1980. Game 162 will be Sunday, September 27th, with all games presumably held at 3 p.m. EST.
