Through one month of basketball, the MVP race looks to be the most competitive and intriguing race in recent memory. The award’s past two winners, Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden are both off to incredible starts yet again. But, four-time MVP winner LeBron James and last year’s rookie of the year Luka Doncic also have firmly placed themselves in the mix so far this season. Here are our MVP power rankings through one month:

1) Luka Doncic

Doncic’s rookie season was phenomenal, but he’s taken his game to a whole new level in his sophomore season. He’s averaging 30 points 10 rebounds and almost 10 assists per game. He’s been a walking triple-double and has his Dallas Mavericks outperforming just about everyone’s preseason expectations for them as they sit at 10-5 and sixth in the West through 15 games.

2) LeBron James

After a season characterized by a groin injury, team turmoil and questions about whether or not LeBron was still a dominant force, James has responded by one of his most impressive seasons to date. James is averaging 25 points, 7 rebounds and a league-leading and career-high 10.8 assists per game this season. Oh, and the Lakers are an NBA best 14-2. If his numbers keep up and the Lakers take the 1 seed in the West it would not be surprising at all to see James take home his fifth MVP.

3) Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis is once again putting up insane numbers and dominating the game on both sides of the ball. The reigning MVP is averaging 30 points, 14 boards and 6 assists to go along with 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks. It feels absurd to have Giannis outside of the top two, especially with the Bucks playing well, but that just speaks to how well Luka and LeBron have played this year.

4) James Harden

James Harden is averaging 38 points per game. 38!!! He’s also contributing nearly 8 assists 6 rebounds per game. Additionally, Harden is attempting 14 free throws a game that is just insane. The former MVP is only shooting 35% from three and 43% from the field, though. If he’s able to keep the Rockets near the top of the standings and improve his shooting splits he should have a good chance to land his second MVP.
